HEATING AND FURNACE ROUTE / FICTIONAL EXAMPLE

NO HEAT?

Start with the safety check. Then name what changed, check the example service area, and prepare the next call.

Second Shift does not provide furnace repair or heating service. This route demonstrates the copy and decision sequence for a residential HVAC site.

LIFE SAFETY / EXIT THIS CALL PATH

GAS OR CARBON MONOXIDE GOES OUTSIDE THIS CALL PATH.

Smell natural gas or suspect a gas leak? Leave the area immediately. Do not use light switches, phones, appliances, or a garage-door opener inside. From outside, call SEMCO Energy Gas Company at 1-888-427-1427. Do not go back until SEMCO says the area is safe.

A sounding carbon-monoxide alarm needs emergency services. Get outside immediately and call 911. This follows U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission guidance.

CURRENT SYSTEM STATE

NAME THE STATE YOU CAN OBSERVE.

A symptom starts the call. It does not finish the diagnosis. Record what changed and when. Leave gas, carbon-monoxide, smoke, and fire conditions with the emergency route above.

  • The thermostat says heat is on, but the room temperature is falling.
  • The furnace starts and stops.
  • Air moves through the vents, but it feels cold.
  • The system makes a new noise.
  • The furnace or blower stays quiet.
  • Water appears near the equipment.

DIAGNOSTIC VISIT

FIND THE FAULT. THEN PRICE THE WORK.

The diagnostic visit begins with the reported change and the equipment involved. The findings should separate the failed part, the condition of the rest of the system, and any house input that changes the work.

A homeowner should leave with the diagnosed fault, the proposed repair, the price, and the next choice if the repair does not hold.

THREE SEPARATE DECISIONS

KEEP EACH ROUTE VISIBLE.

01

REPAIR

Repair needs a named fault, a defined scope, a price, and any warranty that applies to the work.

02

REPLACEMENT

Replacement needs the house, current equipment, sizing, installation scope, controls, and total price.

03

MAINTENANCE

Seasonal maintenance belongs after the current fault. A real plan states visits, exclusions, billing, and scheduling.
